About Us

The Community Self-Help NGO empowers individuals and communities by combining self-reliance development and psychosocial support with community learning, effective humanitarian response, and educational initiatives.

We work with communities affected by war, supporting their recovery, adaptation, and development in the context of a protracted crisis.

Mission

We empower people and communities through self-reliance development and psychosocial support.

Areas of activity:

Psychosocial support (MHPSS). Provide psychosocial assistance to children in frontline areas of Ukraine; strengthen the self-reliance skills of the Ukrainian population in wartime; reduce the impact of war through educational, promotional, and advocacy campaigns.

Community resilience

Strengthening the managerial and organizational capacity of communities and community initiatives; training in the use of digital tools for development and communication; developing storytelling as a tool for visibility, advocacy, and sustainability of community organizations.

Humanitarian response

Responding effectively to specific humanitarian requests from partners and donors; supporting humanitarian initiatives as a tool for strengthening the organization's strategic program areas; adhering to the international humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.

Organizational information

The Community Self-Help NGO is a non-profit organization (non-profit status — 0032). Tax identification number (ID): 44418077.

History of the organization

Community Self-Help (CSH) initiative group began its activities in 2015 with the implementation of the Community Self-Help project aimed at strengthening civic organizations and local communities across Ukraine. Early activities included workshops and consultations in multiple regions — including Berdiansk, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Rivne, and Ivano-Frankivsk — helping local NGOs and volunteer initiatives develop their missions, structure their organizations, and connect with the communities they serve. These efforts contributed to the creation of numerous independent civic initiatives across Ukraine.

On January 31, 2022, the organization was officially registered as a public organization.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the organization's activities have evolved from emergency humanitarian response to systematic work in the field of psychosocial support and community resilience in partnership with national and international organizations.
